The
Federation of International Football Associations, FIFA released its
latest rankings for the member football nations on Thursday
It ranked the countries using matches played across all the continents; friendlies and Continental qualification
games
2013 African Cup of Nations Champions, Nigeria
from its last known position of 37 in September, slipped down to 42,
dropping five places to stay 9 in Africa and this can be related to the
country’s poor run in the AFCON 2015 qualifying series
Nigeria is not the only team that took the deep plunge down the list; West African brothers, Ghana also fell from September’s 33 to the present 35, while occupying Africa’s number 5
North Africans, Algeria made the
second biggest leap from September: they moved from the previous 20th to
15th in the world while maintaining the 1st spot as Africa’s top
playing nation for the month of October
Cameroon moved from last month’s 42 to 40 in October and Africa’s 8 to 7, while Ivory Coast
maintained the second position in Africa, occupying the 25th position
in the world, despite dropping three places from last month’s 22nd
Egypt made had the biggest jump in Africa’s Top 10, moving from last month’s 61 to become 38 in the world and present 6th in Africa
Nigeria’s AFCON 2015 qualifiers opponents, South Africa is57th and 12th, Congo sits 62nd in the World and 15th in Africa while Sudan occupy the 107th and 29th place
In the overall ranking, Togo recorded the best and biggest move behind Central American nation of Guatemala from previous 125 to 53.
